1. Exporting Video to Your iPhone

Simple Description of the Function

First, connect your iPhone to your PC and run iTunes.

1) Select equipment (iPhone).

2) In the menu, select Application and scroll down the screen.

3) At the bottom of your screen, there is a list of applications. Select RePlayer.

4) Drag and drop the video and audio files from your PC into the document area (4).

5) Click the Reload button for RePlayer (iPhone app).

You can then view the files copied from the PC in your RePlayer app as shown below. After copying the files, always make sure to press the Reload button.

2. If Media Can't Be Played or Is Out of Sync

Due to the high resolution or other reasons, there may be times when you'll have trouble playing video or other media files. If this happens, try the following.

At the left of the playing screen, as shown below, you will see the [+ / -  Auto] buttons. You can use this function when video playback slows down. Click the [+/-] button to change the setting: Auto -> Skip -> Drop -> Both.

The default setting is Auto, which allows you to play a video at the best video quality. If playing slows down, then you can change the setting at the cost of a loss in quality.

In other words, playing a video at higher quality places a heavier burden on the device. Lowering the video quality makes it easier to play back videos. Remember that when you play your YouTube file through 3G, the video quality is lower but there is less stopping?

  1. Video playback quality order
    Auto > Skip > Drop > Both
  2. Playback (decoding) performance order
    Auto < Skip < Drop < Both

3. Secrets of Closed Captions

RePlayer is an encoding free video player for iPhone or iPad.

Let's talk about the closed captions that you must have when you watch foreign videos or dramas. You need to pay attention to the following when you use closed captions.

  • Setting the encoding type for each language used in closed captions
  • Finding closed captions with good sync or adjust the sync on your own
  • Finding an integrated closed caption when you study languages

We can't say RePlayer has perfectly resolved all these issues, but we are convinced that it provides good solutions.

  1. In RePlayer, you don't need to set the encoding type. Your application sets the encoding type on its own. Even if it does not support every language, it supports most of them. If the closed caption does not work properly, then send an e-mail to us. (The application has an e-mail address to which you can send an e-mail while using the app.)

  2. If your closed caption is out of sync with the video, then you can swipe it to the left or right to adjust the display time. (Refer to the following video.)

If you want to fine tune the closed captions, then press the closed caption icon and adjust the timing by increments of 0.1 sec (100ms). (Refer to the following video.)

  1. Integrated closed captions. Up until now, you needed an integrated closed caption to watch closed captions in two languages. Now, you don't have to do that anymore. Simply get closed captions for two languages (the file names do not need to match), select one video file, and then press the Detailed View button. Select two closed captions for your video to play simultaneously while playing the video. You can then do the following to make adjustments.
    - Closed caption size: Pull and expand by using two fingers.
    - Closed caption location: Drag it with your finger.
    - Closed caption color: Double tap with your finger (hit gently twice).

You can use your finger to adjust the closed caption location/color.

As long as you have the necessary closed captions, you can use them properly with RePlayer.

4. Setting a Repeating Section

This provides the closed caption window that shows the closed caption before and after the current scene at the same time.

- This provides the bookmark function. If you bookmark a specific scene, (first/second screen shots below) then you can view the scenes following it. After setting the repeating section, (third screen shot below), you can bookmark it to repeatedly view the section. (Click the line numbers at the beginning and the end, and then the line number will turn red to mark the clip selected as the repeating section.)

Once you bookmark these points, (fourth shot below), you can view them in the bookmark list.

5. Sweep Function

While playing video using RePlayer, if you slide the screen to the left/right after placing your finger on the screen, then you can quickly move to the previous or next scene.

The sweeping interval can be set to 10, 30, or 60 sec. by using the setting menu.

6. Sending Feedback e-mail

If you encounter a problem while using RePlayer, send us an e-mail containing the file name and the closed caption. We will then do the best to resolve the problem.

Please follow the procedure shown below to send your e-mail to us.

  1. Click the menu at the upper right corner of the file list.
  2. Select a video, and then a red circle will appear. (If the video has a closed caption connected to it, then a closed caption icon will appear at the lower right corner of its thumbnail.) Afterward, click the pencil shaped icon at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Click Send when the video filename, information, closed caption, and thumbnail attachment are shown in the e-mail window.

If the closed captions have a problem, then use the following method to send your closed captions. This will help us in our efforts to fix the problem. Make sure you that send your closed caption file as an attachment.

Thank you.

7. Setting

  1. iTunes Backup
Once you connect your iPhone/iPad to ITunes, it will automatically start creating a backup copy. The more videos you have, the longer this will take. Backup copies can also waste storage space, so make sure you turn off this option if you don't want backup to be done, even if you connect your device to iTunes. In OFF mode, the list of videos in your RePlayer is not displayed. You have to turn it On to display them.

  2. Background Playback
If you press the Sleep button while watching the video, then you can listen to the audio, even if the screen is turned off. This function can be useful when you only want to listen to the audio while studying a language or playing back a lecture on video.

  3. Touch Locking
If you long-press the screen while watching a video, a locker shaped icon will appear. After that point, touch locking will be activated, meaning that touch operation will stop working. If you want to restore touch operation, then you need to long-press the screen one more time.
This feature is provided if you don't want to disrupt the video when you accidentally touch the screen. You can turn this option on, and then long-press the screen to watch the video in touch locking mode.

  4. Pushing Left/Right
You can adjust the screen movement time interval. You can set the desirable direction of gesture for forward movement or backward movement.

  5. The Number of Section Repeating
Up until now, a selected section will replay infinitely unless the user resets it. By using this option, you can now replay a selected section a specific number of times. Afterward, the video will play normally.

  6. Closed Caption Unit Repeating
If there are no closed captions, then pushing left allowed users to jump to previous scenes at certain intervals. If there are closed captions while watching in vertical mode, then pushing left would cause a section of video with closed captions to repeat. Now you can turn this option on or off.

8. Playing Video in Photobox

You can use RePlayer to play videos stored in your Photobox.

If there are no videos in your Photobox, add some and give it a try.

You can capture important scenes and send photos to your friends. If you recorded a lecture, then you can use the section repeating option too. (Unlike general video, the thumbnail function is not provided.)

9. iPhone Description

  1. Speed Up
For mp4 video files, you can play back up to 2x (double speed). For other video file formats, you can go up to 1.5X.

  2. Sharing
Press this icon while playing a video to share it with others. Select the E-mail option to attach closed captions and thumbnails of the scene to e-mails sent to your friends.

  3. Screen Rotation ON/OFF
If a locker icon appears, then it means that the screen rotation is locked. Otherwise, the screen will rotate depending on whether you watch the device vertically or horizontally.

  4. Repeating Section Setting
While playing the video, click this icon once at the point where you want to start section for repeated playback. As shown in the image above, the upper part of the repeating icon (A->B) will be highlighted.

If you click the icon once more at the point where you want to finish the repeating section, then both the upper and lower area of the repeating icon will be highlighted. Now, you've finished selecting the start and end points, A-B, for the section that will be repeatedly played. Playback of this section will be repeated as many times as set in the setting window. (Setting window is yet to be implemented. It will be provided in the next update. The current version only supports infinite repeating playback.)

At present, infinitely repeating playback is supported. If you want to move forward while this option is active, then click the repeating icon once more, and the repeating setting will be reset.

  5. Thumbnail Index
This creates an index for the entire region of the video by using thumbnails. It initially takes some time to create it, but if you click the icon afterward, then the index screen will appear immediately.

  6. Integrated Closed Captions
If you click the icon, then a pop-up screen for integrated closed captions will appear. Here, the two closed captions, sub1 and sub2, are shown because the two closed captions are set for the video in the setting menu.

If both English (EN) and French (FR) are selected, then the two items, Sub1 and Sub2 will be shown as you press the closed caption icon. If you select just one of them, then only one closed caption will be shown. (BY default, both closed captions are shown.). If one of the closed caption files is out of sync, then select Sub1 or Sub2 and click the – or + button (step of 100ms, 0.1 sec) to adjust the sync by 0.1 sec steps. If you want to revert to the initial setting, then click Reset.

As shown above, if you select two arbitrary closed sections, (the closed caption filenames do not need to match the video filename. Just select any two.) then it will be displayed just like an integrated closed caption. The currently supported formats are smi and srt format files. More will be supported in the future.

  7. Section Repeating Mode
This indicates that you are currently in the section repeating mode. If you want to activate the section repeating mode, then you can use icon no. 4 or directly enter the section repeating mode without having to set it. To enter it without setting :

If there is a closed caption file and your iPhone is in vertical mode, then sweep to the left to set the previous closed caption (this will not be the most recent closed caption, but a few closed captions back on average) for the automatic repeating section. If there is no closed caption, then sweep to the left to move backward at certain intervals for your video playback. (You will be able to set the time interval in the setting window of the later version.)

  8. Screen Mode Adjustment
    3 screen modes are supported.

10. Audio Selection

If you click the yellow circled buttons in the following order, then you can selectively listen to the desired audio from among the multiple audio options included for the video (dubbed languages or other languages can be selected.)
